Personal Remedial/Corrective Exercise Training

Do you suffer from knee, hip or back pain? Have you found yourself unable to do the activities you enjoy, such as hiking, golfing, or lifting your grand kids? Or maybe activities of daily living (walking, getting out of a chair, reaching overhead) are becoming more challenging because of pain or weakness.

What is it?
When there is no known injury or illness, a common reason for pain is related to dysfunction from improper movement. This movement might be from improper movements during exercise, job/work environment (sitting or standing too much; hunched position) or inactivity (not enough movements throughout the day). Often, this dysfunction leads to pain in more than one area.

Sometimes we need to relearn proper movements. If it has taken a long time for an injury to heal or you have been in pain for some time, you might have over-compensated a movement and created a weakness (such as limping). Reteaching your nervous system and muscles to work together as intended takes regular training. This is the role of remedial and corrective exercise. This does not replace doctor's advice or other medical care but may enhance it.

What happens?
One-on-one training sessions to address sources of pain through observations and assessments of mobility, stability and strength. An exercise program is developed to address and reduce pain and, hopefully, get the client moving better.

We start with a full health history and a full body assessment, based on the pain and/or goals of the client. From there, a program is developed that may include self-myofascial release, stretching, and strengthening exercises. The client will leave each session confident they can do the movements/exercises at home.

Any improvements in pain reduction or improved movement requires a client to commit to their "homework" (i.e., exercises).

How much?
While everyone's body is at a different stage with their pain, dysfunction and/or ability to move, a general guideline suggests a minimum of 6 weeks to address a movement dysfunction. This is dependent on the time commitment the client makes for "homework."

6 sessions - $180 (good for 8 weeks from date of first paid sessions)
Clients can choose to meet for an hour each week or twice a week for 30 minutes.

Includes a FREE 30-minute consultation to discuss whether remedial/corrective exercise training is a good fit for you. Complete the form below to schedule your free 30-minute consultation.

Personal Health Coaching

Have you been told by your doctor - or friends or family - that you need to "get healthy"? Or perhaps every New Year's Day you promise yourself that you will "get fit"?

What is it?
Unlike group exercise or personal training, a "coach" does not take the role of "expert" or "leader." Rather, coaches partner with clients using a variety of tools to help the client meet their health and wellness goal(s). This process is client-centered, meaning the client is treated as a whole person, and both the coach and client acknowledge that the client knows best about how to reach their goals, and that the client is wholly capable of behavior change when it comes to a healthy lifestyle.

Health coaches can be particular helpful with clients that have chronic conditions, such as diabetes or obesity, to support behavior changes through the co-creation of workable and reachable plans, strategies and goals.

Coaching sessions are confidential in order that we address your motivations, fears, hurdles, and successes to "sticking to the plan" for a healthy lifestyle. This process aims to engage a client's network of friends, family and medical providers to support the client's path to a sustainable healthy lifestyle.

What is it NOT?
A health coach will not:
  • provide a "diet" or tell you what to eat
  • tell you when or how to exercise
  • develop any "plan" for you to follow

This process will involve the client wherever they are at in their health journey, with both the client-coach working as a team towards meeting long-term health goals. The ultimate goal is for the client to self-manage their health.

How much?
Weekly sessions are typically one-hour in length; however, a schedule is to be arranged and agreed upon by the client and coach. In addition to the suggested weekly one-hour session, the health coach will help client stay accountable (as agreed upon) through phone calls, emails or text messages. The health coach will provide reliable resources and information as needed/requested. The client will be required to submit a health history and questionnaire, and sign a client-coach agreement.

6 sessions - $300 (good for one year from date of first paid session)
Six 60-minute sessions plus accountability phone calls, emails, or text messages, as agreed upon.

Includes a FREE 30-minute consultation to discuss whether health coaching is a good fit for you and the coach. Complete the form below to schedule your free 30-minute consultation.
